WATER DOES MATTER Project
The Water Does Matter project is a flagship initiative of Global Empowers, launched to promote community sustainability by ensuring that rural and underserved communities in Zambia, and eventually across Sub-Saharan Africa, gain reliable access to clean, safe drinking water. This initiative also focuses on empowering these communities through social entrepreneurship, awareness, education, and enterprise.
Purpose & Strategic Intent
To change mindsets around water access and quality, WDM emphasizes that safe drinking water is not a privilege but a right, essential for community sustainability. To implement sustainable infrastructure, we advocate for solar-powered purification stations that communities can own and manage. By integrating social entrepreneurship, we link clean water provision with job creation and community resilience, empowering individuals and enhancing local economies. Additionally, our efforts contribute to environmental sustainability through carbon reduction and renewable energy, aligning with broader development goals such as education, health, and dignity.
Core objectives:
Provide sustainable access to clean and safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in rural and underserved communities to enhance community sustainability. Empower local populations through entrepreneurship, job creation, and youth & women-focused empowerment programmes, exemplified by the Waterpreneur model. Support and expand social entrepreneurship initiatives, such as Vigor Aqua and the One Bottle Project, to reinvest profits into community water access, livelihoods, and education. Conduct the Water Does Matter awareness programme, which includes community-led water quality tours, interactive games, social media campaigns, and educational outreach. Promote environmental protection, recycling, renewable energy, and sustainable water systems. Partner with local and international donors, governments, researchers, and the private sector to co-fund and replicate effective models. Facilitate global fundraising, donor engagement, and management of tax-deductible donations through DGR-compliant structures.
Our Goal
The project focuses on community sustainability by installing 60 solar-powered water stations across rural Zambia, aimed at benefiting over 340,000 people and supporting social entrepreneurship to reduce 1,000,000 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions over its lifetime.
VIGOR AQUA
Vigor Aqua is our social enterprise water brand that produces safe, affordable bottled water in Zambia, supporting jobs and funding community water stations to promote community sustainability. Through our Waterpreneur Model, we empower youth and families with startup stock, mentorship, and business training, turning every sale into a step towards social entrepreneurship and empowerment.
Key Points: Produces 500ml, 750ml, and 20L purified water. Supports community sustainability by funding clean water projects. Promotes social entrepreneurship by empowering youth and women.
ONE BOTTLE PROJECT
The One Bottle Project champions community sustainability by transforming waste into value through the recycling of plastic bottles into new products. This initiative not only creates jobs and reduces pollution but also supports social entrepreneurship by generating income for youth and local entrepreneurs.
